That's where you come in. We’re looking for a Human Centered Designer to support program management office (PMO) projects for a portfolio of work focused on healthcare digital services, communications, and training. This is a new role, in support of a federal contract valued at greater than $250 million over a seven-year period.
In this role you will support the Department of Veterans Affairs. You will drive the creation of user-centered solutions for various communication and behavior change challenges while providing leadership support in user research and design acumen.
You will work in a small group to create user-centered solutions for a variety of communication and behavior change challenges. You will iterate on solutions, informed by user research, to deliver exceptional solutions to meet the needs of users.
Your technical expertise will inform the entire matrixed, cross-functional teams and managing activities to deliver positive end-user experiences in patient homes, and community locations.
This role may be fully remote or involve a flexible hybrid work model that accommodates virtual and in-office collaboration. Preference will be given to candidates who can work on a hybrid basis from our offices in either Alexandria, VA, or Raleigh, NC.
Here’s the work you’ll do:
Essential Functions:
- Support the creation of user-centered solutions for communication and behavior change challenges.
- Conduct user interviews, surveys, and usability testing to understand user needs, behaviors, and pain points.
- Develop a deep understanding of the target audience and their contexts.
- Participate in the design process, from ideation to prototyping and testing, with a focus on user feedback and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and other designers.
- Identify and solve user problems through design thinking and creative solutions.
- Effectively communicating design ideas and findings to stakeholders.
- Develop and implement user research strategies, analyze data, and apply insights to inform
- design decisions and improve user experiences.
- Design and support the development of prototypes, wireframes, and mockups to effectively communicate design ideas to stakeholders and team members.
- Collaborate closely with project stakeholders to ensure project success and alignment with
- organizational goals.

This role is a good fit for someone with these qualifications, experience and skills:
Required Qualifications:
- A certificate in Human-Centered Design and Development from an accredited program and 2+ years of professional experience in user-centered design or human-centered design.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking; ability to troubleshoot technical issues and find effective solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Human-Centered Design and Development (HCDD) or a certificate from an accredited program with 5+ years of professional experience in human-centered design, user experience design, or a related field.
- Experience working with government or healthcare organizations.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines, such as Section 508 and WCAG.
- Ability to execute customer research/stakeholder interviews, market research, data analysis,
- HCD workshopping, co-creation workshop facilitation, concept generation, ongoing storytelling and transformation design sprints.
- Experience creating client-ready deliverables with oversight including insights reports, toolkits, resources, journey maps, personas, and other project-related client facing content.
- Familiarity with Agile or Lean methodologies.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position may supervise one or more employees.
Work environment and physical requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Travel: up to 25% CONUS travel is expected for this position to support HCD field implementation efforts or other related activities as identified by Reingold and the client.
